President

Steph Holt
MCR President 2025-26

Hi, I’m Steph and I’m your MCR President for 2025! I’m studying for a DPhil with the History Faculty looking at networks of natural historians in the 18th Century and how these impact on the science of ecology today. I’m also an ecologist as well as a historian and work part-time at the Natural History Museum in London (aka, the best office in the world!) as well as studying.

Please do reach out if you’ve any questions about your time at Oriel or just to say hello! You can reach me at: mcr.president@oriel.ox.ac.uk.

Vice-President

Secretary

Emma Classen-Howes
MCR Secretary 2025-26

Hello, I’m Emma, a DPhil student in Law at Oxford. As the MCR Secretary, I’ll be helping to take care of administrative tasks and making sure the college is a welcoming place for graduate students.

I can often be found having a cup of tea in the Middle Common Room or reading in the library. I love meeting new people so feel free to say hi!

You can email me about MCR matters here: mcr.secretary@oriel.ox.ac.uk

Treasurer

John Heaton-Armstrong
MCR Treasurer 2025-26

I’m JHA – I look after the MCR’s financial affairs.

I’m in the second year of a history master’s, with a research project focussed on mid-century Ireland and the social legacy of the civil war.

Away from Oxford, I enjoy horse racing, have been known to race a push bike, and am a lucky father to a very precocious 6 year old.

You can reach me at mcr.treasurer@oriel.ox.ac.uk.

Welfare Officer

Charlotte Sayers-Carter
MCR Welfare Officer 2025-26

I’m Charlotte, a second-year DPhil in Law student researching the history of prerogative. This year I have the pleasure of working alongside Domenic as one of your Welfare Officers, as well as acting as your current Women’s Officer. If I’m not in the Old Bod or in the MCR setting up your weekly welfare tea, then you might find me convening the Law Faculty’s Constitutional Law and Theory Discussion Group, walking through Christ Church meadows, or collecting prints in Sanders.

If you have any suggestions, concerns, or dietary requirements for welfare events, then please let use know by contacting mcr.welfare@oriel.ox.ac.uk

Welfare Officer

Domenic Peake
MCR Welfare Officer 2025-26

Hi, I’m Domenic, and I’ll be one of your welfare officers this year. I’m a fourth-year physics DPhil studying materials at extreme conditions, mostly using femtosecond x-ray diffraction experiments at the European XFEL.

Alongside the rest of the welfare team, I’ll be running a number of welfare events throughout the year, including a weekly welfare tea in the MCR, which I hope you will all attend!

If you have any queries or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me via mcr.welfare@oriel.ox.ac.uk

I look forward to meeting you all soon!

Social Secretary

Kyle Ferguson
MCR Social Secretary 2025-26

Hi, I’m Kyle. I’m a second year DPhil student in Clinical medicine, working on drug discovery for a rare bone disease called fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP). I grew up in Cheshire and have really enjoyed getting to know Oxford and Oriel over the past year.

As your Social Sec, I’m looking forward to putting on plenty of fun and inclusive events for everyone, from formals and guest nights, to bar socials and a few new things we’ll add to the term card. I hope to see lots of you at freshers’ events and around the MCR and please feel free to get in touch any time with ideas and questions at the email below.

Social Secretary

Alexander Wollenweber
MCR Social Secretary 2025-26

Delighted to be your social secretary this year and look forward to getting to know all you freshers! I’m Danish/German with a background in economics and second-year DPhil student in Sustainable Finance exploring the fiscal consequences of climate change and nature-loss

Aside from helping our mission to make the MCR the most inclusive and fun space and planning events from formal exchanges, grand formals, and bar nights and bops, you can find me losing at chess in the MCR, also at tennis, climbing or around the pubs of Oxford when I’m not pretending to work.

In case of queries, feel free to contact me at mcr.social@oriel.ox.ac.uk

I’m looking forward to helping put on some great events for all of you this year! I look forward to getting to know all of you over the terms ahead. If you have any questions, suggestions, or want to have a chat, feel free to reach out!

Our bar and space truly does make our MCR unique, so I hope to see you around!
